For this build I decided to switch it up. I grew up in the good ol’ days of Dragonball Z so it will always have a special place in my heart. Up until now I’ve done snap builds of gundam and resin builds of figures – this was my first snap build that was not gunpla.
The kit itself was pretty decent and the build is pretty straightforward. My least favorite part in the end is the control panel simply because it’s fairly complicated and uses a regular sticker rather than nice decals, and I’m not good enough at brushing to have handbrushed it all with decent results.
Lessons Learned:
- Skin tone was initially done with 111 Character Flesh, but it’s very very pale. Maaaybe usable if shooting for a pale female and many coats applied, but at least for a guy it seemed way too pale. I switched and ran a light coat of 51 flesh over it. 51 is much better out of the bottle and darker. It’s pretty decent, although maybe slightly too orange if you go too heavy. For a male where skin isn’t the primary focus, it’s probably OK out of bottle as is. Otherwise more complicated skin tones and shades will be needed than straight out of bottle.
- DSLR camera is still way better at photos than phone camera (Samsung S7 edge). At first I was lazy and went the phone route since in general it seems to take good photos, but when compared to the DSLR (older model Canon Rebel) it’s still no competition unfortunately
